Hei,
my name is Ulrich, this is my very first post. I hope, english is allowed here, and I promise that I learn Norwegian - but it's not up to the task, yet. I have a Caravelle TDI (ACV) from 2000.
It looks as if the vacuum pump on my car needs cleaning or replacement. At very low speeds and after starting the car, the brake pedal sometimes is hard to press, and I need to use a lot of force to brake the car. I would prefer to have the vacuum pump cleaned first, and that is why I don't want to go to the official VW dealer here in Trondheim. Is there a good car mechanic, maybe even specialized in T4, here in Trondheim?
Thanks for your help, Ulrich

It might not be your vacuumpump, the brakeservoassistent(is this correct english?), (bremsekraftforsterkeren), has been known for such problem.
You can speak all languages here, but not bad ones.

Thanks Rune,
I have given some thought to the "bremsekraftforsterkeren" also. I am not a pro, but according to the symptoms, it should be related to the vacuumpump. In normal driving conditions there is no problem with the brakes at all. Problems only appear when going very slowly, e.g. when I leave the parking lot, or when I get into one with a bit of back and forth. Also, this happens when I start the trip, but can also happen after 500km (like today when I returned from Oslo).
I will do some listening to the engine tomorrow, maybe I can identify some noises. If so, this should also be hinting to the vacuum pump, I believe. Anyways, I am very happy about any advice you can give, thanks!
Meanwhile, if there is some person from Trondheim knowing about a good place to have this checked, I'd be more than happy
.
Best regards, Ulrich

Check the vacuum tube between the pump and the vacuum servo unit. This tube is probably leaking. One way in finding the leak will be to use starter spray or 'startgass'. Spray along the vacuum tube with the engine in idle and the speed goes up in case of a leak.

Not on this car. The gass will only reach the vakuum pump. This system is not connected to the intake manifold on the diesel engine.Indian wrote:One way in finding the leak will be to use starter spray or 'startgass'. Yess! My brains was probably not up to trim while replying to your post. You might have to take off the tube to look for leaks.

I'm quite pleased with Vinjes Bilverksted. They are note spesialized on VW, but their prices are low (much cheaper than VW-specialized Møller (http://www.mollerbil.no/wip4/verksted/i ... 9421&f=830)) and the service is good.ilmenator wrote:Meanwhile, if there is some person from Trondheim knowing about a good place to have this checked, I'd be more than happy.
